Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race

“There is no royal road to anything.  One thing at a time, and all things in succession.  That which grows slowly endures.” –J.G. Holland.
For a minute I wondered if J.G. Holland was the guy who built the Holland Tunnel, in which case it seemed pretty clear that the Holland Tunnel is not a royal road either, but then I found out that J.G. Holland was Josiah Gilbert Holland, a 19th century poet and novelist.
